Amtrak route radio frequency tables
Update!
I’ve made a similar table for the Lake Shore Limited, and added AAR channel numbers to the Zephyr! I’ll update this post more as I make more.
I’ve been frustrated by the lack of information regarding railroad radio frequencies used along the California Zephyr, my most ridden route, so I’ve compiled a chart in a more legible format than those currently available. For train 5 (westbound), read up. For train 6, read down. Channel borders are listed with mileposts, subdivision information, and locations, so the reader can easily figure out what channel they should be on.
I used a combination of sources for this, with frequency information coming from RadioReference and On Track On Line, mileposts from USDOT, and some ground truthing.
You can download the chart as a PDF here.
It should go without saying, but DO NOT ever transmit on any licensed channels, especially those of a safety sensitive operation like railroading. Don’t do it! Disable your transmit function!
