I’m Natalie. I’m a college student and transit performance intern at New York City Transit’s Department of Subways. I’m a history major, focusing on institutional histories in the public sector and the development of transit technologies. My résumé-lite is below the fold.

I’m a transit nerd. I fell in love with public transport in ninth grade, when I started commuting on the bus. I’d always been the type of kid to take apart toys in search of their inner workers, and transit was no exception: I had to understand it. I started learning about bus scheduling and dispatching, Muni’s nationally unique blended headway management, and eventually dove in to rail.

Fast forward, I’ve served on two transit agencies’ advisory boards, am interning at New York City Transit and writing about the workings and history of train control systems in my spare time. I have a particular interest in the histories of transit technologies, especially communications based train control, which I’m currently writing an intro to.
